As you enter eighth grade, you are invited to be a part of the St. Paul United Church of Christ Confirmation Ministry. We are very excited about each of you being a part of this ministry. We will explore the Christian faith together. You will participate in hands-on ministry which will change the lives of other people. You are strongly encouraged to attend a retreat with other Confirmation classes from around southern Illinois; to work and play with children at an inner city daycare at UniPres Kindercottage in East St. Louis; and to experience another faith tradition as we attend a Sabbath service at a Jewish synagogue and visit with a Rabbi.
We will begin our journey together with a dinner on Wednesday, August 21st at 6:00 p.m. Besides sharing more about our Confirmation ministry, you will meet your Faith Partner. Your Faith Partner is a member of the congregation [not a relative] with whom you will meet once a month (during our Wednesday sessions) and have one-on-one conversations about what it means to be a Christian.
Classes will be held in the Schueler Youth Center (on the third floor). Mid-week class with the pastors will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 28th. The Sunday School class with Sherry Montgomery and Charles James will be at 9:00 a.m. beginning Aug. 25th, then the Confirmands are expected to attend the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday mornings following Sunday School.
