Ministry: Faith & Action
This page calls out our ministries including prayer groups, nursing home and transportation services and missions. We invite all members of the community to take part in our missions.
Study & Prayer Groups
Our study and prayer groups give our members the chance to come together as a smaller group to study and worship God. We offer a variety of groups at different times during the week to ensure that each member of our congregation can find a group that fits their schedule as well as their needs. Click on the links below to learn more about each group.
Tuesday Noon Bible Study
The Tuesday Noon Bible Study gathers in the library each week for study, prayer and fellowship. Study and prayer lasts an hour, however, the fellowship may last a little longer.
Adult Bible Study Group
The Adult Bible Study group meets at various times throughout the year. Some of the topics discussed by the group in the past include: Bible as Drama, Companions in Christ, Cup of Life, etc. Upcoming meetings and topics are announced in the Pathfinder (the Church newsletter).
Friday Breakfast Prayer Group
The Breakfast Prayer Group meets at Merz on Main (formerly Gruchala’s). The group has a devotional and prays for those who are hospitalized, sick or in crisis. The group then eats and visits.
Volunteers gather to pray for those in need.
All of our members are important to us, including those who may be unable to attend Sunday service. Whether you or a loved one are in need of a little extra care or you are looking to volunteer your time or donations, click the links below to learn more about the Christian Care services we offer.
Members of our congregation visit our nursing home and those who are shut-in.
These members provide communion to those in nursing homes and to those who are shut-in.
Nursing Home Worship Services
We provide monthly worship services at Columbia Care and Rehab Center in Columbia, IL, quarterly worship services at the Oak Hill facility in Waterloo, IL and semi-annual worship services at New Athens Home in New Athens, IL.
Sunday Van Transportation
Members of the congregation are available to pick you up for Sunday worship services and/or other church activities.
Medical Visit Transportation
Members of the congregation are available to transport you to medical appointments.
Medical Equipment Use Program
A variety of at-home medical equipment supplies are available through the church.
Many of the members of our church and our community enjoy giving their time and efforts to others. At St. Paul, we believe this is an integral part to growing in faith. We offer many different mission options so that everyone may find their calling. Each of the links below will lead you to a different service mission.
A group of members gather every week to pack backpacks with weekend food for young children in need in the Columbia school district.
Fair Trade Fellowship
Our Fair Trade group sells a variety of products from companies that work under the Fair Trade agreement – an agreement that guarantees that all farmers and craftsmen receive a fair profit from product sales.
God’s Little Meal Makers
Members take turns to provide a home-cooked meal for members that come home from the hospital. The group also provides meat and cheese trays for the funerals of members. The Meal Makers are there with a warm meal and kind words.
The Hospitality Group helps plan funeral luncheons for the funerals held at St. Paul. Many families have enough to plan without worrying about the luncheon and that is when this group steps in.
We host various mission trips, as well as participate in trips offered through other churches and organizations. Some recent mission trips include Indiana Tornado Relief, Habitat for Humanity Home Build in Ecuador and Hurricane Katrina Home Build through Back Bay Mission.
